Update my email contact

I'm having problems changing my email contact in my blog, please note that the best contact for me by email is youngcheryll@gmail.com. Please do not try and call me after Jan. 19th. My phone will be disconnected and I will post my European phone number but that is really for my family should there be a family emergency. Please check my blog posts and let me know if there are problems. I will be visiting the Cammacks for a week. If you had something really small you would like to send them, contact me immediately and I will see if I can take it to them. Call 760-577-9959. Probably needs to be no later than the 14th of Jan. for that to happen.

What's the next step?

Finally finished the blog class only to discover that it was not as easy I thought it would be, duhhhh. A point in case: I just wrote another post 30 minutes ago and when I went to the home page it wasn't there, darn. It's a good thing I have big shoulders, because a person could feel like a real dummy trying to do this. Oh yeah, they make books for people like me. Yeah yeah, I'll go get the book, "Blogging for Dummies."

Just 35 more days till I leave for Ireland. The Italy portion of the trip is being modified but not sure by how much. I'm really like a leaf on the wind, and allowing the Spirit of God to blow me in whatever direction He chooses. Sound risky? It would be if I didn't trust God to have my best interest at heart.

Children at Risk Training starts in January and I'm eager to learn the methods and strategies this organization has developed. I might be joining a workshop put on by Loom, an organization out of Portland, as they train caregivers at a facility in Romania---more about this later. This may sound somewhat confusing but I'll be volunteering for a YWAM base in Milan days, training with Children in Crisis Training International in the evenings, and seeing if there is a way to partner with Loom in Portland and CCTI out of South Carolina. It's three different organizations that all work towards the same goals. Loom and CCTI have a partner relationship and I'm ready to work along side others and not be the Lone Ranger any more.
Till the next post, Arrivederla

Learning to Blog

Blogging
Started my blogging class, and my first assignment is to setup a blog. I don't feel like I know enough to really get started, but here I go anyway, which is how I do many things. I'm eager to share what's going on in my life, because God has me on such an amazing adventure. Blogging will keep family and friends posted on my travels and activities as I volunteer in various parts of the world.

The Nonprofit
For those that didn't know about the nonprofit, let me backup a bit. I started a nonprofit about 5 years ago to bring resources to NGOs or ministries that lacked the normal access to resources. Just the other day someone said to me, "Don't all ministries have a connection to a church or some other organization that takes care of their needs. I just write a check and my church takes care of several missionaries." That is true for some ministries, but when I'm out of the country and visiting orphanages or other facilities, frequently they lack many basic resources. Often they don't even have enough food to feed themselves or the children. Where are the supporters, where is the church, where are the vital links they need to survive?

My Vision
So, while there are many organizations that have a strong support base, there are just as many struggling to feed and care for the children and staff each day. I hope to be that link to the resources they need. Yes, it's a grandiose idea, but like the story of the starfish, if I can help one group or one child to find the help they need, then I feel like I have done what God is calling me to do.

Why set up a Blog?
If you're reading this, I hope you will join me as I share this journey of discovery. Some of my musing will be personal travel stories, some will connect you to my nonprofit activities, and part of this blog will be about others whose lives are spent rescuing children in crisis. I guarantee it won't be boring. This is a work in progress, if you have any problems posting, please let me know on FB or by email.
